SIMONE GAD : CATS, THE HOLOCAUST, AND CHINATOWN

Simone Gad’s fu-dog paintings are part of her Chinatown facades and pagodas series, and are recent works focusing on the FuDog as mythical dragon cat/dog which protects and brings good luck to the old Chinese and Japanese buildings of Los Angeles. They are also part of her rescue pets and wildlife series. Gad’s been exhibiting in museums and galleries for over 44 years, including her 4th solo exhibition she just completed at L2kontemporary Gallery in Chinatown. Gad is also a Getty Sponsored Pacific Standard Time artist and is included in Lyn Kienholz's encyclopedia; L.A.Rising/So Cal Artists Before 1980. Gad is a 6 times grants recipient, and included in the Smithsonian Library Archives re LAICA Journals for 1976 and 1979, National Portrait Gallery Library Archives, and National Woman’s Museum of Art-all in Washington DC among numerous publications. Gad’s works are self-taught paintings and collages on paper and canvas.
