Hundreds of people filled Times Square on Sunday to protest the recent escalation of violence in Gaza. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators held signs and chanted slogans such as “from the river to the sea, Gaza will be free.” They called for an end to the occupation and to the $3 billion per year in U.S. aid to Israel. Soon after, a large pro-Israel group arrived, and the two groups began shouting at each other from across the busy intersection. As people flooded the street, and traffic was stopped, the NYPD began pushing demonstrators back onto the sidewalk. The pro-Israel group was then directed by police to move its protest further down the street, thus separating the two dueling parties.
