Greek Jews tackling Golden Dawn's anti-Semitism The 5000 strong Jewish community in Greece is stepping up efforts to tackle neo-Nazi extremism after recent events have propelled the far-right Golden Dawn party into the political ascendancy, currently polling around 14 per cent of the vote. The Jewish Museum of Greece and Central Board of Jewish Communities are leading the way, highlighting the need to educate school children from a young age about far-right extremism and the Holocaust, while challenging anti-Semitism at every turn. Recently a Golden Dawn parliamentary spokesperson went unchallenged as he read out a passage of the anti-Semitic text, the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion' in the Greek Parliament, while the party is known for their violent behavior towards women and suspected immigrants. Golden Dawn won less than 1% of the vote in the 2009 elections and their recent ascendancy -- similar to some ways to that of the Nazi Party in Germany -- can be attributed to a crippled economy which has left a quarter of the Greek workforce unemployed.
