EJU praises EU for Nobel Prize

The European Jewish Union has praised the EU for its recent winning of the Nobel Peace Prize. In a letter to the European Union, EJU leaders said that a unified Europe was the only guarantee for maintaining a peaceful society on the continent. Jewish leaders urged the EU to recognize the Judeo-Christian heritage and fundamental human rights carried by Europe's past, and stressed that Europe must eradicate anti-Semitism, which led to World War II and was an initiating factor in the creation of the European Union. The awarding of the Nobel Prize comes in the context of a number of recent instances of anti-Semitism in Europe, including a rise in anti-Jewish jokes and neo-Nazi accounts on Twitter, and an attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris.
