Finland's Mikko Hirvonen has wheeled his way to victory, clinching his first ever World Rally Championship race win with team Citroen after a stellar performance in the second half of the race. Citroën teammate and world title holder and championship leader -- Sebastien Loeb -- who has already wrapped up the title this year -- crashed out in the opening stage on Sardinia's tricky Gravel track. Russia's Evgeny Novikov came home in second place while his M-Sport Ford teammate Ott Tanak finished third on the 306 km track. Mikko Hirvonen wins the Rally d'Italia for the first time, after finishing second in Sardinia on five previous occasions and the win makes it Hirvonen's 15th victory alongside co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen. The final race of the season is being held in Spain in early November.
